Tour of California
These last few days you have probably come across the Rapha team tackling 4 stages of the famous 2011 Amgen Tour of California (runs May 15-22) . The videos are amazing and no doubt California is the state to ride, with such a diversity of lanscapes and mind-blowing vistas, it has it all (even the good wine)! I went on the famous coastal road US-1 two months ago and I couldn’t agree more with rider Slate Olson, no need to go to Italy to have amazing roads.

Deep down
Matt Lingo, San Diego based photographer famous in the fixed gear scene for capturing tricks, hazardous rides through traffic or bombing hills, has a new project coming up named ‘What This Means’. After gathering lots of photos over the years, Matt decided to take his art to another level, focusing more on the people than the bike itself to reveal what fixed gear is all about. This project stems both from the passion of the photographer and those who participated in it, showcasing the real aspect of the fixie world that one can only grasp through its people. Profound, personal and beautiful project!

SPIN
Talking about photos, I couldn’t pass on the great project of this hearty, funny and so talented Brit that I met a couple of times, professional photographer Mr. Ben Roberts.
The project is called SPIN, in collaboration with designer Christian Thümer at Signal | Noise, and showcases emblematic fixed gear bikes and their unique riders out of the streets of London. Ben’s eye is unbelievable, he knows exactly how to embellish a simple object in its natural surrounding, and the outcome is far from what I have seen so far. We are dealing with fixed gear, photography and art hands down!
The project is still in process so look out for next developments, bespoke illustrations and a planned book.
